When Richard purchased The Fleece Inn, a pub just off Market
Street, near St. Mary's Church, Kirkby Lonsdale, after being
a landlord for more than fifteen years at another of the town's
taverns, he and his family Stuart and Kate, plus a lot of local
help, started the internal refurbishment (see pictures
below). This naturally called for a new name to go with
its new image as a comfortable hostelry, boasting six
new en-suite bedrooms all with up to date facilities, a new
bar and lounge areas.
Being a lover of Rugby Union which Richard adopted as a theme
for his new venture, when he visits Twickenham for the England
matches his favourite watering hole before the match is called,
yes, you've guessed it - The Orange Tree. There is no doubt
of his love for the game from the full sized rugby ball in the position
of being penalty kicked above the front door, to the many sporting prints
which adorn the lounge walls. Of course there is more to The Orange Tree
than a place of homage to rugby, for, this is one of the best eating
and drinking places in Kirkby Lonsdale. |
Latest acquisition of the family of Mr. G.R. Taylor of The
Green Dragon Hotel, Kirkby Lonsdale, is Topsy - a six-week-old
fox cub. Topsy was brought to the hotel when caught
on Barbon Fells. In the picture 10 month old Richard plays
with his new friend. |
